Kivanç Tatlitug: The lastingness beyond the craze

Hi guys,

I hope that you agree with me that it's no exaggeration to assert that Kivanç's popularity is being phenomenal in different parts of the world, and that he has sort of revolutionized our existence thanks to his very unique and amazing presence on the artistic scene.
Just look at the fans' number on his facebook page which keeps increasing by 1000 at least each day, mashallah! And even in the "offline world" people are being crazy about him, and these include all sorts of categories ranging from housewives to working women, from adults to kids, from girls to boys, form romantics to realists, from "simple-minded" to those showing a higher degree of intellect, from soap opera addicts to art critics, and the list is just long...

True he was introduced to most of us through the series Gumus, and true he captivated his audience and managed to hold it spellbound. However, Kivanç Tatlitug is a name that can't be forgotten once the series is finished or this "wave of craziness" if we may call it so is over. In fact, I see Kivanç's lasting effect right in the way he successfully communicated to us intense and profound emotions that we are not likely to forget soon. He also -- I'm sure you agree -- redefined many notions that are closely related to our everyday life, and inspired us in a very positive way, especially when it comes to such essential values as commitment, faithfulness, determination, positive aggression, love, etc. I really think that he did so magnificently well, and for this he does deserve the loyalty and devotion of his fans.
Above all, I see Kivanç's most significant contribution in the way he -- directly or indirectly -- rekindled our interest in the Turkish culture, as we are passionately develpoing a keen interest in finding out more about Turkish music, language and history, which is in my opinion a very beautiful way of bridging cultures and learning to appreciate the other regardless of differences or distinctions.

Well then, thank you very much Kivanç Tatlitug, and be sure that your passage into our lives is not going to be a passing crazy adventure! Far from it, we're going to be nourished by your essence, and for a long lasting time!

Tres bien dit Natalo!you need a high five for this!...anyway stopping I will call it" Kivanc's fever " is impossible!it's contagious! The artist needs to create new challenges and have new goals to keep his popularity,as for the culture and music, Arabs and Turks always had a Love/Hate relationships, now it's the begining of Love...again.

You replied to Layla's poston Jun 25, 2008 at 3:06 AM
Merci bcp ma chérie :) et très bien vu aussi ;) yes you're right, the fever is contagious and reaching everyone everywhere; that's amazing!!!

I'm really glad that a new beginning is shaping the Arabs/Turks relationship in this light; it is about high time to forget rivalries and grudge and to start enjoying the richness of the two cultures' beautiful blending

Thanks again dear for your reply

Natalo, I agree with you to a certain extent regarding Kivanc's ability to display and express a range of emotions onscreen. He certainly comes across as a very passionate and "full on" actor. But I'm a little concerned that we as general viewers are getting carried away with the character "Muhannad" more so than the real person Kivanc.

In a lot of the arab magazines they actually refer to him as Muhannad, I found this to be an obvious indication that we have fallen in love with the character onscreen and to a certain degree are unable to differentiate between the two.

I definitely agree that he's emergence has sparked off an interest in Turkey and everything Turkish lol. But lets be real, human beings love beauty and beautiful things, and he is easy to watch because of his beauty mashaAllah. But I can't help but wonder whether that is the main reason he has received such attention. Don't get me wrong I am not saying he's not talented, because he does have talent, but so do many other aspiring actors that are probably just as if not more talented than him, but do not have such a following. He is blessed with beauty and its a definite advantage for him, such is life.

I am always faced with this question whenever i think of famous people or people that are under the spotlight...what is the role of the fan to play in their life? Honestly, if I saw Kivanc walking in the street, i would definitely turn and look but I would never go up to him. I just find it too intrusive and I think its really important to respect people's privacy. He came to Dubai as you know and it was insane, they had it all over the news and the reaction of the girls. I honestly think he's scared by the experience lol.

anyways thats my 2 cents worth, a lot of a rambling sorry about that, but enjoyed reading your post.

Hey Nancy

What an insightful reply! Great thanks!!!!

I do agree with u on all what u said. But u know what is my conclusion about it all? Coming to assess / appreciate Kivanç depends on the angle that is adopted, and this in its turn depends on the viewer who is "consuming" this. As u certainly know, not all fans belong to the same "category (with respect to all), and therefore the outcome and the nature of admiration will vary a lot. For example u will find those who would jump on him if they meet him on the street, or scream like crazy (btw I did not like what happened in Dubai, and I did feel he was somehow "scared"), and those who would do anything to have a picture, those who would watch only because he is handsome, those who confuse the real Kivanç with Muhannad and hence identify their dream man in him... but also those who watch below the surface level; and i mean here those who come to have a sort of "global" view which includes the artistic dimension in the first place, the appearance, the roots, the culture, etc...

As far as I am concerned, I am a fan in the sense that I consider this guy to have "nourished" me on so many levels. My interest in him is multi-faceted: I like his performance, his artictic choices, his warm, mature and modest personality, and his combined liberaiism and conservatism, which actually made me fall in love with his culture!!!

I still agree with u on a basic point too: I don't like the muhannad / Kivanç substitution. I wish that the fans could grasp the line of demarcation between the two (btw, he himself does not seem to like it...)

And Nancy, I wish u could watch Menekse ile Halil; u will see that the one I am admiring is indeed the talented Kivanç Tatlitug!!! :)

Sorry for being that long, but I did appreciate your note a lot. Really thanks!

Heya Natalo,

this thread is getting interesting indeed. When you say nourished you, are you referring to the "breathless-ness" you experience whilst watching him? lol i understand that completely and infact i usually have like this permanent grin planted on my face during gumus.

I know he can act, and i dont doubt his abilities but like i mentioned before, I just question whether he would have received such popularity if he wasn't so good looking.

Trust me Natalo, I agree with you regarding his ability reach the audience, and after watching him in gumus i went onto watch Menekse ile Halil and was hooked on youtube for a good couple of weeks, tirelessly watching the episodes in turkish lool. I enjoyed it much more than gumus, except for the fact that it got to a stage were i was like "come off it, there can't be that much damn drama in your life!!!"

I am definitely referring to that "breathlessness" u are talking about!! :)) I am sort of taken to a remote world whenver I watch him!!

About the good-looking thing, I'm sure this helped him a lot, but trust, there are so many other good-looking people, but they don't have a "soul". Kivanç has the two mashallah, and this is what I adore about him (add to this maturity and modesty; he is far from being superficial...)

I will let u find out about my opinion about Menekse ile Halil in the link that I put above :)

Thanks again for dropping by dear Nancy!

What can I say? You've already said everything and it's so well written. Sure Kivanç is not an actor that we forget at the end of a serie... He's more than that. More than a pretty face on the screen. And you shall expressed so well...
